I have work in two galleries in Chicago right now. I am also pleased to announce that earlier in the summer I won the Snider Prize from the Museum of Contemporary Photography at Columbia College Chicago! Two of my works are now part of MoCP’s permanent collection.
Selections from The Spotless Mirror will be on view in the back room at Schneider Gallery until October 26. It is my first solo show (if only by default—Jennifer Greenburg, who is showing in the front gallery, is far more established than I, and hers is totally a solo show). So that is pretty exciting.
I also have a piece in “The Photographic Self,” up at Woman Made Gallery until October 24.

Congrats on the MFA. I'm curious, what are the graduate open studio days like from a grad student's perspective? What's expected of you, what's a typical day like etc? I'm entering UCLA this fall as an art undergrad but I'm also looking to get a sense of UCLA's grad program while I'm there.
Grad school (at least this grad program) is all about working at your own pace. There is nothing expected of me except that I make good, carefully considered work. I could show a single photograph if I wanted to, as long as I could justify the decision.
My name is Janna Ireland, and I’m a grad student in the Art Department at UCLA. This quarter, I will be teaching Public Texts, an experimental course designed to help undergraduate students make writing a regular part of their artistic practices. In addition to journaling, in-class writing exercises, and artist’s statements, my students will write a series of “Public Texts,” blog entries that I will re-post here. I will also be posting information about our activities every week, and all sorts of things that I think are relevant to them.
I’m teaching my own class! It has a big tumblr component. I mean, of course it does. You can follow us here.
